Andy Black comments: “It has taken 20 years to finally finish the job, it is a fantastic feeling. I’ve been in so many strong positions before and not ended up winning that sometimes I doubted whether I could actually get the first place. Everybody was waiting for me to blow up. I see this as a turning point – perhaps now I can convert my dominant positions in tournaments into victories.”

Black during his years in the scene has earned millions of dollars and gained a great reputation since winning $1.75 million for his 5th place in the 2005 WSOP Main Event when he qualified for his seat through PartyPoker. He was also Chip Leader on day one at the 2007 WSOP Main Event and 2008 Aussie Millions Main Event but sadly this huge lead fell away. 2007 Aussie Millions tournamnet saw him end up in third place.

Black started practicing Buddhist meditation techniques and working with the mind between 1998 till 2003 and he actually quit playing poker. Since his return he claims his acquired knowledge improves his game.

Andy stated jokingly: “The black death is over, I killed them all, I tried to blow-up but it didn’t quite work! The victory is particularly sweet as it was over eleven of the world’s top players,”

De Wolfe had a 3:2 chip lead going into the final showdown. Tony G was chip leader going into the final table after finishing top of the league. Second place in chips was Black.

Players bought $60,000 into the Premier League and PartyPoker added $280,000 to increase the pool to $1 million, which was double last year’s $500,000. The twelve players were Phil Hellmuth, Dave Ulliott, Tony G, Andy Black, Ian Frazer, Roland De Wolfe, Vicky Coren, Juha Helppi and Eddy Scharf new comers to this years league were Marcel Luske, Annie Duke and Alexander Kravchenko.

Final qualifiers were Tony G, Andy Black, Alexander Kravchenko and Marcel Luske in the top four place, with Roland De Wolfe and Annie Duke winning their place in the final after a play-off heads-up matches.

PartyPoker spokesman commented: “Andy is a deserved winner, he’s finally got the monkey off his back. It would have been a black day if he managed to choke again. Roland De Wolfe’s achievement was also significant. He looked down and out in the final league heat but showed true class to finish second. Everybody involved was thrilled with the event, it just continues to get bigger and bigger.”

Head of Online Gaming at Matchroom Sport, Eddie Hearn, stated : “PartyPoker.com Premier League Poker exceeded the hype. I have never seen so many of the world’s top players want a title so badly and Andy Black’s tears sums up just how much this event means. We are already planning Premier League Poker III where there will be a further increase to the $1 million prize fund.”
