The WSOP Africa is set to begin in just under 10 hours; it offers 6 WSOP rings in 6 days.

The World Series of Poker Africa 2012 will be running from 21 – 26 February at the Emerald Resort & Casino in Johannesburg, South Africa and will be hosted by Scotty ‘The Prince’ Nguyen.

Scotty Nguyen will be visiting South Africa for his first time and appeared excited in a recent interview with Sport24.co.za where he was quoted saying “You know, the Prince has been all over the world baby! Australia, Asia, Europe, but this is my first time going to South Africa and I’m excited to come and share this great game we love with the players.

“(I’m looking forward to) getting to know them and having a good time – just make sure the people at the Emerald protect me from any lions and I promise you we’ll have a lot of fun baby!”

The 2012 WSOP Africa will consist of 6 ring events including the $3,300 buy-in main event, which will begin on the 24^th February. A charity event and a ladies tournament will also be held but no rings will be awarded for those events, the ladies event will offer a WSOP Circuit ladies pendant instead.

The inaugural 2011 WSOP Africa saw 188 entrants in the main event which was won by Warren Zackey ($222,477).

South Africa have taken a step forward in terms of legislating, taxing and permitting online internet gambling. South Africa’s Minister of Finance, Trevor Manuel, released a bill this week for public comment that plans to tax Internet gambling.

The bill will include a special tax on “interactive gambling” which was earlier regulated by South Africa’s National Gambling Amendment Bill approved by Parliament earlier in May 2008.

Ryan Dreyer was crowned the King of Poker at 2008 Sun City Million Dollar tournament winning a large sum of $650,000. Danny K a popular South African artist claimed a 10th place victory in the tournament. Ryan Dreyer is well known in the industry as a commentator for DSTV All Africa Poker Channel in South Africa.
