WSOP 2012The WSOP 2010 Main Event is officially the 2nd biggest live poker tournament of all time beating last years attendance of 6,494 players registered. The final figures have not yet been calculated but so far there have been more players registered than last years event, the worldwide rescission seems to have not affected the main event registration.

The biggest attendance was recorded at the 2006 WSOP which had 8,773 players entering the main event, the biggest live poker event in the world. That year the prize pool was a staggering $82,512,162 and the event was won by Jamie Gold who won more than $12 million for his first place finish.

Update – 7,319 players registered for this years main event making the total prize pool $68,798,600

WSOP 2009 HighlightsWSOP 2009 Highlights, Day 6 only 185 players remaining, chip leader with 4,872,000 chips is South African player Warren Zackey from the All Africa Poker and Piggs Peak Casino Team.

Other notable  poker pros still in the running is Phil Ivey playing for his 3rd WSOP bracelet this year, Peter Eastgate still holding strong and Joe Hachem.

Poker Pros who won’t be earning their bracelets this year include: UltimateBet Phil Hellmuth and Chris Ferguson Team Full Tilt Poker both knocked out on Saturday Day 4.
